Ghana brewery and bar tour of Accra

A good Accra night out is easy to plan badly — wrong areas, long waits, a risky ride home. Here is how a guided bar and brewery evening actually works, with a driver who stays the whole night.

The short answer

  • A guided evening through Accra's bars, from Osu's lounges to local spots, with an optional brewery or distillery visit.
  • You drink; your driver does not. He waits between venues and takes everyone home at the end.
  • We tailor the route to your taste — craft beer, cocktails, live highlife, or a laid-back beach bar.
  • Best for groups, couples and travellers who want the fun without navigating unfamiliar areas at night.
  • Responsible pacing, water between rounds, and a safe ride home are built into how we run it.
  • Send your dates, group size and vibe on WhatsApp and we will plan the night and quote it clearly.

What Accra's bar scene is really like

Accra drinks well and drinks late. The scene splits roughly into three: polished rooftop and hotel lounges, the buzzing strip of bars and restaurants around Osu and Oxford Street, and the relaxed beach and garden bars where the music is highlife and afrobeats and nobody is in a hurry. A good night usually mixes at least two of these.

Star and Club are the everyday lagers you will see everywhere, usually served properly cold. Beyond them there is a growing craft-beer and small-distillery interest, plus local favourites like alomo bitters if you are feeling brave, and fresh sobolo, the hibiscus drink, for anyone taking a night off the alcohol. Fridays and Saturdays are busiest, and many spots only really fill up after ten.

Knowing which places are actually good on a given night, and which are dead, is half the battle. A rooftop that is heaving on Saturday can be empty on a Tuesday, and the good live-music sets move around. That local read — where the crowd and the music are tonight — is what a guided evening buys you.

How a guided bar evening works

As a Kasoa-based team who run these nights every week, we keep it simple. We collect you from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, take you to the first venue, and your driver waits outside. When you are ready to move, he is there — no hailing rides in the dark, no haggling with a stranger at 1am, no worrying about how you get back.

We plan the order so it flows: perhaps start with a rooftop sundowner, move to a lively Osu spot for food and cocktails, then finish somewhere with live music or by the sea. You set the tone — quiet and classy, or loud and late.

If you would rather build a food-led evening instead, our guide to the best restaurants in Accra pairs well, and the wider Accra nightlife guide covers clubs and live-music nights.

Drinking responsibly and getting home safe

We will say this plainly because it matters: the point of the night is to enjoy yourself and get home safely. Your driver stays sober from pickup to drop-off — that is the whole model, and it is non-negotiable. Nobody in your group needs to drive, and nobody should.

We build in water between rounds and we never rush the drinking. Pace yourself, eat something during the evening, and keep an eye on friends. If anyone has had enough, the car is right there to take them back early while the rest carry on. Ghana's drink-driving laws are enforced, and more importantly the roads at night are no place to take chances.

Keep valuables tucked away and cards secure, as you would on a night out anywhere. Our Ghana safety guide has the sensible detail, and our transport guide explains why a private driver beats improvising a ride home.

Adding a brewery or beach-bar leg

If you want more than bars, we can add a leg with a bit of substance. Some visitors like a stop that focuses on how the local lagers and craft brews are made and enjoyed; others prefer a slow afternoon-into-evening at a beach bar before the town leg begins. Either way it breaks up the drinking with something to see and do, which makes for a better-paced night.

Labadi and the beach bars east of the centre are a favourite for a golden-hour start — grilled tilapia, cold beer, feet in the sand — before you head into Osu proper.

Because we run these privately, the mix is yours, and there is no minimum spend at any venue on our side — you order what you want, where you want. Combine it with a daytime city tour and you have a full day and night sorted — see our things to do in Accra for daytime ideas. If you need somewhere central to base yourself so the drop-off is short, our where to stay in Accra guide helps.

Plan your Accra bar and brewery night

The difference between a great Accra night and a frustrating one is knowing the right places, moving between them easily, and having a safe ride home locked in from the start. That is exactly what we handle. You bring the group; we handle the route, the driving and the timing.

Send us your dates, how many are coming, and the kind of night you are after — chilled, lively, cocktails, live music, or all of it. We will reply on WhatsApp with a plan and a clear written quote, with no vague bundled figures.

Questions people ask

How do I book a bar tour?

Message us with your dates, group size and the kind of night you want. We suggest a route and send a written quote. Confirm it and your sober driver is reserved for the evening. WhatsApp is the fastest way to sort the details.

What is included?

A private air-conditioned vehicle with a sober driver for the whole evening, hotel pickup and drop-off, and a planned route between venues. Your drinks, food and any entry fees are paid at each place, so you only pay for what you order.

Can we customise the venues?

Absolutely. Tell us if you want rooftops, craft beer, cocktails, live highlife or a beach bar and we build the route to match. Have your own must-visit spot? We will work it in.

How big can the group be?

From a couple up to a larger group in a minibus. For bigger groups we may use a larger vehicle or a second car, which we confirm in the quote so the whole party travels together.

Is a deposit needed?

Usually a small deposit secures the date and driver, with the balance settled around the night itself. The exact terms are written in your quote before you commit — we do not spring charges on you.

Is it safe getting home after drinking?

Yes, and that is the core of the service. Your driver stays sober all night and takes everyone back to the hotel. Nobody in your group drives, so there is no drink-driving risk and no scrambling for a ride at closing time.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
