Ghana tours for content creators

Shooting in Ghana works far better when the logistics disappear. A driver who waits through golden hour, routes planned around the light, and honest advice on where you can and cannot point a camera.

The short answer

  • Creator trips need flexibility, so we plan around the light and a driver who waits, not a fixed coach timetable.
  • Accra alone gives you Jamestown, the skyline, Makola, Independence Square and the beaches.
  • Beyond the city, Ada delivers estuary sunsets, Kumasi has Kejetia market, and Cape Coast has the castles.
  • Golden hour runs roughly 5.45am and 5.45pm; harmattan haze from December softens the light and grounds drones.
  • Drones need a GCAA permit, and some sites need filming permission; we are honest about where you cannot shoot.
  • We quote around your dates, group size, kit and how many locations you want.

How we plan a creator trip

Content trips fail on the same thing every time: a schedule that ignores the light. A coach tour rolls into Jamestown at noon, when the sun is flat and the streets are hottest. We do the opposite. We plan around the two windows that matter, build in time for the shot to happen, and keep the driver on hand rather than idling somewhere with a departure time.

As a Kasoa-based team who run these routes weekly, we know which spots read well on camera, when they empty out and how long it really takes to get between them in Accra traffic. You send a rough shot list or a mood board; we turn it into a workable day. Our things to do in Accra guide is a useful starting point for ideas.

The Accra locations that carry a feed

Accra gives you range in a small radius. Jamestown is the obvious draw, with its 1930s lighthouse, the fishing harbour below and the murals left behind by the Chale Wote street art festival each August. Independence Square and the Black Star Gate deliver clean, graphic frames. Makola market is colour and motion, though it needs a respectful, quick hand with the camera. For water and space, Labadi and Kokrobite beaches sit a short drive apart, Labadi busier and more social, Kokrobite quieter with a surf and drumming scene out west.

Osu after dark is worth a look if your content leans nightlife, and our Accra nightlife guide maps it out. The green counterpoint is Aburi, up on the Akuapem ridge, cool and forested and only an hour out, covered in our Aburi gardens guide.

Beyond the city

The strongest material is often outside Accra. Ada Foah, where the Volta River meets the Atlantic, gives you one of the country's best sunset frames, especially from a boat on the estuary or a sandbar with water on both sides.

In Kumasi, the Kejetia market is one of the largest in West Africa, a genuine spectacle from above and inside. Manhyia Palace and the surrounding Ashanti sites add depth.

Then there is the coast west of Accra. The castles at Cape Coast and Elmina photograph best in early light, and they carry a weight no location gimmick can fake, which our Cape Coast and Elmina guide explains. For beach options further along, see our Ghana beaches guide.

Drones, permissions and the honest constraints

Here is the part that catches creators out. Drones are not a free-for-all in Ghana. The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority requires registration and a permit, and flying near Kotoka airport, military sites or government buildings is off limits. We will tell you plainly what is realistic for your dates rather than promising aerials we cannot deliver.

Some locations charge filming fees or need permission, the castles among them. Markets and street scenes call for courtesy: ask before filming individuals, and do not point a lens at people who have waved you off. From December to February the harmattan haze softens the light and can ground drones entirely, so timing matters, which our best time to visit guide covers.

Logistics, kit and getting picked up

The driver-guide is what makes a creator trip work. Ours will do the pre-dawn start for a sunrise, wait through a two-hour edit-in-the-car break, and re-route on the fly when a location surprises you. The vehicle is air-conditioned, which keeps you and your kit from cooking in the humidity, and there is room for cases and a tripod without sitting on them. Charging on the move, a stash of water and someone who knows a quiet spot to swap lenses all sound small until the day they save a shot.

We can meet you at the airport with your gear and go straight to a first location if the light is good. It is also worth packing light on assumptions: card readers, spare batteries and a rain cover earn their place, especially in the wet months. What shapes the cost is simple: number of days, distance covered, group size and how many locations you are chasing. Send us the plan and we will price it honestly, no invented figures.

Let us handle the logistics, you make the content

Creators do their best work when they are not also navigating, negotiating and watching the clock. That is the job we take off your plate, so you can concentrate on the frame in front of you.

Plan a creator trip. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates, group size, kit and rough shot list. We will build a flexible private itinerary on our tours page.
Arriving with gear? We can meet your flight and load your kit straight into an air-conditioned vehicle. See our airport pickup service.

We are honest about what is possible with drones and permits, and we never guarantee weather or light. But the logistics, the access and the timing, that part we get right.

Questions people ask

How do I book a trip for shooting content?

Send us your dates, group size, a rough shot list or the locations you have in mind, and any kit that needs space. We build a flexible plan around the light and confirm it with you. Because creator days shift, we keep the itinerary adaptable rather than rigid.

Can I fly a drone in Ghana?

Only with the right permission. The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority requires drones to be registered and permitted, and no-fly zones include the airport, military and government sites. We will tell you honestly what is achievable for your dates and cannot promise aerials where the rules or the harmattan haze rule them out.

Will the driver actually wait for golden hour?

Yes. That is the whole point of a private trip. The driver-guide waits through sunrise and sunset shoots, edit breaks and re-routes, rather than working to a fixed departure. It is the difference between getting the shot and missing it.

Can the itinerary be customised to my content style?

Entirely. Street, landscape, culture, nightlife or a mix, we plan around what you actually shoot. Tell us your style and pace and we match locations and timings to it.

Do you need a deposit, and is it reliable?

A deposit holds your dates and the vehicle, with the balance settled later, and we put the terms in writing first. We run these routes every week, so reliability is our reputation, but we never ask for full payment up front on trust.

What does a creator trip cost?

It depends on the number of days, distance, group size and how many locations you want, plus any site filming fees. We do not post a fixed rate. Send your plan and we will give you an honest, itemised quote.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
