Ghana tours from Los Angeles
From LA there is no shortcut to Accra, but there is a smart way to do it. Here is how to plan the routing, use the days well, and let us handle everything once you land.
The short answer
- There is no nonstop from LA to Accra; you connect once, through a US East Coast hub or Europe.
- Total travel time typically runs the better part of a day, so build a longer trip to make it count.
- LA has a real Ghanaian and wider West African community, from churches to restaurants around the city.
- A fortnight lets you cover the coast, Kumasi and even Mole without a punishing pace.
- We meet you at Kotoka and run the ground in air-conditioned vehicles with a driver-guide.
- Send dates and group size for a tailored quote; we do not sell one-size packages.

Ghana from the West Coast
Los Angeles is about as far from Accra as a major US city gets, and there is no pretending otherwise. But the West Coast has a genuine Ghanaian and West African presence, from churches and hometown associations to the restaurants and markets scattered across the county where you can find fufu, kelewele and shito without much searching. For that community, and for the many Angelenos drawn to Ghana's history and coast, the distance is a hurdle worth clearing.
The trick is to plan around the flight rather than fight it. Because getting there costs you the better part of a day, a longer trip pays off. Two weeks on the ground turns a gruelling journey into a proper holiday. If you are travelling to connect with heritage, start with our guide on Ghana for the diaspora and African Americans.
Routing and realistic timing
There is no nonstop from LAX to Accra, so you will connect once. The two sensible patterns are a US East Coast hub, where you can pick up a direct onward flight to Accra, or a European hub such as one of the big Western European gateways. Either way, count on the better part of a day door to door once you add the layover and the westbound time difference.
Frequencies and connection times shift by season, and fares swing with them, so confirm current flights rather than relying on last year's timetable. Sort your entry documents early too; our guide to the Ghana visa and e-Travel process explains what to arrange before departure. Overnight flights on the transatlantic leg help you land closer to rested.
Making a long trip count
When you have travelled this far, a few days is not enough. We usually build LA trips around ten to fourteen days so the flight earns its keep. A fortnight comfortably covers the coastal heritage sites, a stretch in Kumasi and the Ashanti region, and even a run north to Mole National Park for elephants and antelope, all without the forced march that shorter trips become.
The coast is where most people begin: Cape Coast and Elmina castles, then the canopy walkway at Kakum through the rainforest. Our detailed guide to the Cape Coast and Elmina castles is worth reading first, so the visit lands with the weight it deserves. In Accra, leave room for the Nkrumah Mausoleum, Jamestown and the night markets. Our fourteen-day Ghana itinerary maps a full loop that suits West Coast travellers well.

If wildlife appeals, the long run north to Mole National Park earns its place on a fortnight. We tune the pace to you, not the other way round, and we will say plainly when an itinerary is trying to do too much in the time.
The ground, handled
As a Kasoa-based team who arrange these trips every week, we take on the parts of Ghana that tire out first-time visitors. After a journey as long as the one from LA, the last thing you want is to negotiate a taxi at midnight. We meet you inside Kotoka arrivals with a name board, carry the bags and drive you straight to your hotel.

Across the trip you travel in a private, air-conditioned vehicle with a driver-guide who reads the roads, handles site entries and keeps the day moving. Couples take a saloon car; families and groups spread out in a Hiace minibus. If you only need help with the arrival leg, our airport pickup service covers that on its own while you sort the rest yourself.
What drives the cost
We do not post a flat price, because a fair one depends on how you travel. The main factors are group size, since sharing a vehicle across more people lowers the per-head cost; the season, with December and Easter in higher demand; your choice of hotel; the distance you cover, as a Mole run adds fuel and driving days over a coastal loop; and private versus shared travel.
A private tour costs more than doing it alone, and we will not pretend otherwise. What it buys is time saved, safer travel on roads you do not know, and a team who solves problems so your holiday is not spent troubleshooting. It is a fair trade for most travellers coming this far.
Plan your LA-to-Ghana trip
Coming from Los Angeles, the flight is the hard part; the trip itself does not have to be. We handle the driving, the timing and the daily decisions so your two weeks feel like a holiday rather than a logistics exercise. We run these journeys weekly and know how to structure the first jet-lagged day so it still counts.
Need just a reliable arrival? Book our airport cars and transfers and add tours later. To picture how the days flow, read our fourteen-day itinerary. A single WhatsApp message starts the whole thing.
Questions people ask
Is there a direct flight from Los Angeles to Accra?
No. From LAX you connect once, usually through a US East Coast hub or a European gateway. Total travel time runs the better part of a day. Confirm current routings and connection times directly, as they shift by season.
How long should I go for from the West Coast?
Given the distance, we suggest ten to fourteen days so the flight is worth it. A fortnight covers the coast, Kumasi and Mole comfortably. Shorter is possible but the long journey eats into it.
How do I book, and can it be customised?
Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we reply with a tailored plan. Every itinerary is built to order, so tell us what you want to see or who you are visiting and we shape it around that.
What is included?
Usually an air-conditioned vehicle, driver-guide, fuel, route planning and airport pickup. Hotels, meals and entry fees can be bundled in or left to you. Your quote spells out exactly what is and is not covered.
Do you take families and groups?
Yes, from couples to extended families and community groups. Couples take a saloon car; larger parties travel in a Hiace minibus. Group size is one of the biggest factors in your per-person cost.
Is it safe and reliable?
Ghana is among the more settled and welcoming countries in the region, and we run these trips every week. You get a vetted driver-guide, an airport meet-and-greet and someone reachable throughout. We give current, honest advice rather than guarantees.
What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.
Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
