Ghana tours from Manchester
Manchester has no direct seat to Accra, but the one-stop options are frequent and the connection is the easy part. Here is how a North West trip comes together, end to end.
The short answer
- There is no direct Manchester to Accra flight; you connect through London, Amsterdam, Istanbul or a Gulf hub, and the whole journey is usually a half-day door to door.
- Ghana runs on GMT, so despite the longer travel time there is no jet lag to shake off once you arrive.
- The dry months from November to March are easiest for touring; December is the diaspora peak and books out early.
- We are a Kasoa-based team who run these trips weekly, with air-conditioned vehicles and driver-guides.
- A private tour is not the cheapest option, but it takes the routing, haggling and logistics off your plate.
- Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we build a quote around your real trip.

Getting to Ghana from Manchester
Manchester does not yet have a direct flight to Accra, so every option is one-stop — and in practice that is far less of a hassle than it sounds. The common routings connect through London, through Amsterdam with KLM, through Istanbul with Turkish, or through one of the Gulf hubs, and most of them get you to Kotoka International Airport within a half-day, door to door, depending on the layover. The connection is the only real difference from flying out of Heathrow; the rest of the trip is identical.
Which routing suits you comes down to the layover you can stomach and the fare on the day. A short London connection keeps the total time down; a Gulf or Istanbul routing can be cheaper but adds hours. Check current schedules and carriers yourself before booking, because these connections change with the season and no single option is always best.

Whichever way you fly, sort your paperwork first. Read our visa and ETA guide, confirm the current rules on the official channels, and make sure your yellow fever certificate is in order well before you leave.
Landing after a longer travel day
Here is the part that makes the connection worthwhile: Ghana keeps GMT, so there is no time difference from Manchester. You may have been travelling most of the day, but there is no jet lag waiting for you at the other end — only the tiredness of the journey itself, which a night's sleep fixes.
Because arrival times on connecting routes can land late in the evening, we plan the first day gently rather than throwing you straight onto the road. A driver-guide meets you inside arrivals at Kotoka with your name on a board, takes the bags, and drives you to your hotel in an air-conditioned car. After a full day of airports, not having to find a taxi or agree a fare in the dark is the whole point.
When to travel
The drier stretch from November to March is the easiest window for touring — firmer roads to Cape Coast and the north, and less humidity to contend with. Our timing guide lays out the seasons in full.
December is the busy exception. Manchester's Ghanaian community travels home in force over the festive weeks, and Accra is at its liveliest. It is a brilliant time to go if you want the atmosphere, but connecting flights fill and fares climb, so book months ahead. For quieter castles and canopy walks, January and February are calmer and easier on the wallet.
What a trip looks like on the ground
As a Kasoa-based team who run these routes every week, we take care of everything once you land. Most first trips split time between Accra — Jamestown, the arch, the markets and the food — and the coast west of the capital.
Cape Coast and Elmina hold the castles, and an hour inland sits the Kakum canopy walk.

With more time, Kumasi adds Ashanti history and kente, and Mole in the north puts you on foot near elephants. Our seven-day itinerary is a realistic starting point; longer lets you slow down. We travel in saloon cars for couples and Hiace minibuses for families and groups, and the driver-guide handles the routes, the timings and the traffic out of Accra so you do not have to. Cape Coast is roughly a three-hour run west of the capital, Kumasi about four hours north, and we plan the driving to avoid the worst of the congestion at each end of the day.
What drives the cost
We do not publish a headline price, because a fair one depends on your trip. The things that move it are simple: how many of you are travelling, whether you go in December or a quiet month, the hotel standard you want, how far you range, and whether the vehicle is yours alone. A couple after comfort and a group sharing a minibus will see very different figures. Our cost breakdown shows where the money goes.
A private tour costs more than piecing it together yourself on trotros and shared taxis. What you buy is time and certainty: no working out connections at the far end, no negotiating fares, and one accountable team from pickup to drop-off.

Questions people ask
How do I book a Ghana tour from Manchester?
Message us your dates, group size and interests. We reply with a tailored itinerary and a quote, adjust it with you, and confirm once you are happy. WhatsApp is fastest, and you deal directly with our Kasoa-based team the whole way.
What is included?
Usually your vehicle, fuel and a driver-guide, plus anything else we agree such as hotels, entries and airport pickup. The quote states exactly what is covered. Your connecting flights from Manchester you book yourself, and we are happy to advise on the routing.
Can you work around a late-arriving connection?
Yes. Connecting routes often land in the evening, so we schedule the pickup to your real arrival time and keep the first day light. Give us your flight details and we track it.
Can the trip be customised?
Completely. A private tour is built around your interests, pace and budget rather than a set itinerary. Want more coast and less driving, or a family visit worked in? We plan for it.
Is a deposit needed?
For most bookings we take a deposit to hold your dates and vehicle, with the balance later. We put the terms in writing before you commit and keep them clear and fair.
Is it safe and reliable?
Ghana is among the steadier countries in the region and we run these roads weekly with drivers who know them. We stay reachable throughout. See our safety guide for the practical picture.
What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.
Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
