The short answer

  • Accra is a short flight from Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt — an easy short-haul break.
  • Nigerian passport holders should confirm current entry rules before travelling; do not assume.
  • A long weekend suits Accra and Cape Coast; a week lets you reach Kumasi and Mole.
  • We are a Kasoa-based team and arrange private cars, driver-guides and airport pickups every week.
  • Cost depends on group size, season, hotel standard and distance — we quote per trip, not a fixed price.
  • Send us your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we will build an itinerary and a tailored quote.

Why Ghana is an easy escape from Nigeria

For Nigerian travellers, Ghana is one of the most rewarding short-haul trips in the region. Accra is a short flight from Lagos, Abuja or Port Harcourt, the shared history and warmth make it feel familiar, and English is widely spoken so getting around is straightforward. It is a natural choice for a long weekend, a family holiday or a first taste of travel beyond home.

As a Kasoa-based team who arrange these trips every week, we see many guests fly in on a Thursday or Friday and pack a great deal into a few days. You get calm beaches, real history at the coastal castles, lively food and markets, and green day trips — all within comfortable driving distance of Accra. If you have never been, our reasons to visit Ghana guide is a good place to start.

The practical appeal is simple: short flight, familiar language, and a country compact enough to enjoy without exhausting drives. Many of our Nigerian guests are pleasantly surprised by how easy it is to slow down here, and how quickly a change of scene lifts the spirits after a busy stretch at home.

Entry, flights and getting around

Entry rules change, so please confirm the current requirements for Nigerian passport holders before you book flights — check official sources rather than relying on older advice. Our guide to Ghana visas and the ETA explains the general picture, but treat it as a starting point and verify current details.

Flights into Kotoka International Airport in Accra are frequent. When you land, we meet you in arrivals and drive you straight to your hotel in an air-conditioned car — no haggling with taxis after a flight. For how transport works more broadly, see getting around Ghana.

Once you are here, a private driver-guide is the calmest way to travel. You keep your own schedule, skip the crowded stations, and have someone local who knows the roads and the stops worth making along the way. It is a small extra cost compared with going it alone, but for a short trip it buys back time and removes almost all of the stress — which matters when you have only a few days to enjoy.

What to do with a weekend or a week

With a long weekend, we usually keep it to Accra and the coast. You can explore the capital — markets, food, the seafront and history — then take a day trip west to Cape Coast and Elmina. For ideas in the city, see top things to do in Accra and a three-day Accra itinerary.

The castles at Cape Coast and Elmina are moving and important; our castles guide explains what a visit involves. Pair them with the rainforest canopy walk at Kakum for a full, memorable day.

With a full week, you can add Kumasi in the Ashanti heartland or the wildlife at Mole. Our seven-day itinerary shows how it all links together.

How we arrange your trip

We keep it simple. You tell us your dates, how many are travelling and roughly what you would like to see, and we build an itinerary around it. Everything is private to your group — your own vehicle, your own driver-guide, your own pace. We can arrange hotels, the airport pickup and drop-off, and every drive in between, so once you land you have very little to think about. If your plans change while you are here, your driver-guide can adjust the day with you rather than sticking rigidly to a printed schedule.

Get a tailored quote. Send your travel dates and group size and we will put together an honest, itemised plan. Plan my trip.

On cost: we do not publish a single price because no two trips are the same. What you pay depends on group size, the season, the standard of hotel, how far you travel and whether the tour is private or shared. Larger groups usually bring the per-person cost down, and a flexible travel date can help too. We will always explain what is and is not included before you commit, so there are no surprises — and we would rather talk you into the right trip than the most expensive one.

Ready to plan your Ghana trip?

Ghana rewards even a short visit, and travelling with a local team takes the stress out of the details. Whether you have three days or ten, we will shape a trip that fits your time and your budget, and we will be honest about what is realistic.

Airport pickup sorted. Land at Kotoka and step straight into an air-conditioned car. Arrange an airport car.

Have a look at our first-timer tips before you go, then get in touch. Send us your dates and group size, ask any questions you have, and request a tailored quote — we are happy to help you plan a trip that works.

Questions people ask

How do I book a Ghana tour from Nigeria?

Send us your travel dates, your group size and a rough idea of what you would like to see, by message or WhatsApp. We build an itinerary, share an itemised quote, and once you are happy and confirm, we reserve everything for you.

What is included in the tour?

That depends on the plan we agree, but a private tour typically includes your air-conditioned vehicle, a local driver-guide and the agreed drives. We can add hotels, airport pickup and entry arrangements. We always spell out what is and is not included before you commit.

Can the itinerary be customised?

Yes. Every trip is built around you — your dates, your pace and your interests. Tell us if you want more beach time, more history or a slower schedule and we will adjust it. Nothing is off the shelf.

Do you take small groups or solo travellers?

Yes. We arrange private trips for solo travellers, couples, families and larger groups. Larger groups usually lower the per-person cost, but a private tour for one or two is very doable — just ask.

Is a deposit needed?

Booking terms vary by trip, hotels and season, so we confirm the exact arrangement in writing when we send your quote. We will not invent figures here — request a quote and we will set out any deposit and payment details clearly.

Is travelling in Ghana safe and reliable?

Ghana is one of West Africa's more relaxed destinations and travelling with a known local team adds a layer of reassurance. Use common sense as anywhere, confirm current travel advice before you go, and see our Ghana safety guide for practical tips.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
