The short answer

  • Ghana offers three broad venue types: coastal beach settings, cool hillside gardens, and grand city hotels.
  • Beaches like Busua and the western coast suit relaxed, barefoot celebrations, weather permitting.
  • Aburi and the Akuapem ridge give gardens and cooler air within easy reach of Accra.
  • Grand Accra hotels handle larger, formal weddings with the infrastructure to match.
  • The legal marriage and the ceremony are separate matters — sort the paperwork with proper local advice.
  • Tell us your guest numbers, dates and style and we will handle transport, logistics and site visits.

The three kinds of venue

Ghana gives a wedding real choice, and it helps to think in three broad types. There is the coast, for barefoot beach ceremonies and sea-view receptions. There is the hills above Accra, where the air is cooler and gardens are green. And there are the grand city hotels, built for larger, formal celebrations with the staffing and space to match. Each suits a different couple and a different guest list.

We should be clear about our role from the start. We are a Kasoa-based tour team, so what we handle is the travel side — moving your guests, arranging transfers, running site visits, and building the days around the wedding. We are not wedding planners or lawyers, and we will always point you to specialists for the ceremony itself. For the romantic follow-on, our Ghana honeymoon guide is a natural next read.

Beach weddings on the coast

The western coast is where most couples picture a Ghanaian beach wedding. Busua is the obvious draw — soft sand, gentle surf and small beach hotels where a relaxed celebration feels right at home. It suits an intimate, unhurried style rather than a formal marquee affair, and the sunsets do a lot of the work for your photographer.

Be honest with yourself about weather and logistics. The rainy season can interrupt an outdoor plan, so timing matters — check our best time to visit guide and our month-by-month weather notes before you fix a date. The coast is also a drive from Accra, so guest transfers need planning, which is exactly the sort of thing we take off your plate.

Gardens and cooler air in the hills

If a beach is not your style, the Akuapem ridge above Accra offers gardens and noticeably cooler air within an hour or so of the city. Aburi is the best known, with mature botanical gardens that make a green, shaded setting for a smaller ceremony. It is a good middle ground — close enough to Accra hotels for guests, but with the feel of getting out of the city.

Gardens suit couples who want greenery and a temperate afternoon rather than sand and sun. Our Aburi Gardens and Akuapem ridge guide covers the area and how to reach it. As with the coast, the practical question is guests: where they sleep, and how they get to the venue and back, which we can arrange with comfortable vehicles.

Grand hotels for larger weddings

For a big, formal wedding, an established Accra hotel is usually the sensible choice. Places like the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in the city centre have the ballrooms, catering and staffing that a large guest list needs, and everything happens under one roof, which simplifies the day enormously. Guests stay where they celebrate, and the hotel's team manages much of the detail.

This route costs more and feels more corporate than a beach or garden, but for a couple with a hundred-plus guests it removes a great deal of stress, and the on-site rooms mean elderly relatives and small children are never far from a bed. For the higher end across the board, our luxury Ghana travel guide is a useful companion. Whichever venue you choose, we can arrange airport pickups and shuttle your guests so nobody is left working out taxis in a strange city.

The practical and legal side, honestly

Two honest points before you fall in love with a location. First, the legal marriage and the ceremony are separate things. Requirements for legally marrying in Ghana — or marrying at home and holding the ceremony here — change and depend on your circumstances, so take proper local legal advice and confirm current rules rather than relying on a travel page. Second, popular venues and hotels book up, particularly in the dry season, so commit early.

On cost, we do not quote fixed figures. The total depends on the venue, guest numbers, the season, the standard you want and how much transport is involved. What we quote clearly is our part — the vehicles, transfers and logistics — and we are always straight about it. Our beaches guide helps if a coastal setting is calling you.

Let us handle the travel side of your wedding

Tell us your guest numbers, your dates and the style you are after — beach, garden or grand hotel — and we will help with site visits, arrange comfortable transport for your party, and build the surrounding days into a proper trip. We will give you an honest, tailored quote for our part and point you to the right specialists for the rest.

Plan your wedding travel and stay. Send guest numbers and dates and we will design the logistics and quote them fairly. Start on our tours page.
Flying guests in? We can meet your party at Kotoka and shuttle everyone to the venue so no one is stranded. See airport cars.

We treat wedding travel the way we treat every trip: careful planning, comfortable vehicles and honest advice. Handle the vows with your planner; let us handle getting everyone there.

Questions people ask

Do you plan the whole wedding?

No, and we would rather be honest than overpromise. We are a tour and transport team, so we handle the travel side — guest transfers, airport pickups, site visits and the surrounding trip. For the ceremony itself we point you to dedicated wedding planners and, for the legal side, proper local advisers.

How do I book your help for a wedding?

Send us your guest numbers, dates and the venue or style you have in mind. We reply with a plan for the travel and logistics and a tailored quote, adjust it with you, and confirm once you are happy.

Can we legally marry in Ghana as visitors?

It is possible, but the requirements depend on your circumstances and change over time, and the legal marriage is separate from the ceremony. Take proper local legal advice and confirm current rules; we can point you in the right direction but we are not lawyers.

Can you handle a large guest list?

Yes. We can shuttle a big party with our minibuses, arrange multiple airport pickups and coordinate transfers between hotels and the venue. Tell us the numbers and we will size the transport accordingly.

Is a deposit required?

Booking terms depend on the venue, the season and the scale of transport, so we confirm current details when you enquire rather than state a figure here. We are always clear before you commit.

When should we start planning?

As early as you can, especially for dry-season dates when venues and hotels fill up. Booking ahead gives you the pick of dates, better guest accommodation and time to arrange the travel properly.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
