What's included in a Ghana tour package

Knowing exactly what is and is not covered is the difference between a relaxed holiday and a series of small surprises. Here is how we think about what belongs in a package.

The short answer

  • A typical package covers transport, a driver-guide, and the planning that ties your days together.
  • Accommodation and site entry fees are usually included when agreed in advance, and shown clearly in your quote.
  • Some things — international flights, visas, travel insurance, tips and personal spending — normally sit outside a package.
  • Every package is different, so we always put inclusions and exclusions in writing before you book.
  • You can add or remove elements to match your budget and interests.
  • Ask us to confirm exactly what your quote covers — never assume.

What a package usually includes

At its heart, a Ghana tour package is about taking the logistics off your plate. As a Kasoa-based team who run these trips every week, the core of what we provide is transport in a clean, air-conditioned vehicle, a driver-guide who knows the routes, and the planning that turns a wish list into a workable day-by-day itinerary you can actually follow.

Most packages also fold in your accommodation and the entry fees for the sites on your route, provided we agree them in advance. When we send a quote, these are itemised so you can see exactly what is covered rather than guessing or reading between the lines.

The point of the package is simple: you turn up, and the driving, timing, tickets and directions are already handled. If you are picturing what a full week looks like, our 7-day Ghana itinerary gives a clear sense of the shape, and helps you see where the busy days and the restful ones fall.

Guiding, sites and entry fees

A good package is more than a lift between attractions. Your driver-guide helps you get the most from each stop — the castles at Cape Coast and Elmina, the canopy walk at Kakum, the markets and neighbourhoods of Accra. Where site entry fees are part of your agreed plan, we include them so you are not fishing for cash at every gate while everyone waits.

We are always clear about which specific sites your package covers, because entries do change and we would rather you knew the exact list than assumed. If a particular experience carries an extra cost, we say so up front. Our guides to the Cape Coast and Elmina castles and the Kakum canopy walk give a feel for the stops many packages include, and for the wider practicalities of moving between regions, see our guide to getting around Ghana.

Where accommodation fits in

Accommodation is one of the most flexible parts of any package. You might want simple, friendly guesthouses, mid-range hotels, or something more comfortable — and that single choice shapes both the experience and the price. We book what you agree to, and we list each property in your quote so you can look them up yourself before you commit.

If you would rather sort your own hotels and just take transport and guiding, that is fine too — packages are not all-or-nothing. To help you picture the options, our guide to where to stay in Accra breaks the city down by area and budget, so you can decide how much of the arranging you want us to handle.

What is usually not included

Being honest about exclusions matters as much as listing inclusions. As a rule, international flights, your Ghana visa or ETA, travel insurance, tips, and personal spending on souvenirs, drinks and extra meals sit outside a standard package. Some meals may be included and some not — we always specify which, so nothing is left to guesswork.

None of this is meant to catch you out; it is simply the norm across the industry, and we prefer to say it plainly. When we send your quote, the exclusions are written down alongside the inclusions so there are no grey areas and no awkward conversations later.

If anything on the excluded list is important to you — say you want most meals covered, or airport pickups at both ends — tell us and we will build it in. The package flexes around you, not the other way round.

How packages flex around you

The best part of working with a small operator is that nothing is set in stone. You might start from a rough outline and shape it together: add a beach day, swap a museum for a market, upgrade one hotel and keep the rest simple. Because we run the trips ourselves, we can tell you honestly which changes add real value and which are not worth the cost.

We also fit the package to who is travelling. A family needs different pacing from a couple; a group with varied interests may split for an afternoon. Just tell us your priorities and any must-sees, and we will assemble a plan that feels tailor-made rather than pulled from a shelf.

Prefer it tailored? Tell us your priorities and we will shape the package to fit. Plan my trip or add an airport pickup.

Get your inclusions in writing

The single best way to avoid surprises is to ask for everything in writing before you book, and that is exactly how we work. Send us your dates, group size and the experiences you care about, and we will reply with a clear quote that separates what is included from what is not.

Because we run these trips ourselves, we can tell you honestly where it is worth adding an element and where you can happily leave it out. There is no pressure — just a transparent plan you can trust.

Questions people ask

What is typically included in a Ghana tour package?

Usually transport in an air-conditioned vehicle, a driver-guide, and the planning that ties your days together, plus accommodation and agreed site entry fees when arranged in advance. We itemise everything in your quote.

What is normally not included?

International flights, your visa or ETA, travel insurance, tips and personal spending usually sit outside a package. Some meals may be included and some not — we always say which, in writing.

Can I customise what is included?

Yes. Packages are not all-or-nothing. You can add elements like extra meals or a higher standard of hotel, or strip it back to just transport and guiding. Tell us your priorities and budget.

Are entry fees to sites covered?

Where a site is part of your agreed plan, we typically include its entry fee so you are not paying at every gate. We list the exact sites covered, because entries can change and we would rather you knew.

Do you need a deposit to book?

Booking terms vary by trip, and we will explain any deposit clearly in your quote before you commit. Everything is set out in writing, with no hidden charges.

How do I know the package is reliable?

We are a hands-on Kasoa-based team running these trips every week, and we put all inclusions and exclusions in writing. Ask any question you like, and confirm current details with us before you pay.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
