The short answer

  • Frankfurt (FRA) has had direct nonstop service to Accra, about 6.5 hours in the air.
  • As Germany's biggest hub, it also gathers travellers from across the country onto that leg.
  • No plane change means less that can go wrong and a much simpler travel day.
  • Ghana is on GMT, so there is effectively no jet lag to shake off.
  • We meet you at Kotoka and run the whole trip in air-conditioned vehicles.
  • Prices depend on group size, season and hotel standard; ask for a tailored quote.

The direct-flight advantage

Frankfurt is one of the handful of European cities with a nonstop flight to Accra, and it makes a real difference. The Africa leg runs about six and a half hours, with no change of plane, no missed connection to worry about, and no second security queue in a strange terminal. You board at FRA in the evening or overnight and step off at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) with your day still ahead of you. Because Frankfurt is Germany's largest hub, travellers from Munich, Hamburg, Cologne and beyond feed onto the same leg with a single short connection.

Ghana runs on GMT all year, so there is no meaningful jet lag from Germany — you keep your own body clock. Many travellers take an overnight departure and land in the morning with the day intact, which is the easiest way to arrive. Airlines and schedules do change, so confirm the current direct service and timings when you book rather than assuming last year's timetable still holds. Sort your visa or ETA and yellow fever certificate before you fly; both are checked at Kotoka.

What to build your trip around

Most people flying in from Frankfurt want the highlights done properly rather than a rushed dash. The castles at Cape Coast and Elmina are the heart of the coastal route, roughly three hours west of Accra along the N1, and they stay with you long after you leave.

Pair the castles with the canopy walk at Kakum, a day or two in Accra for markets and Jamestown, and you have a satisfying week. A classic seven-day itinerary covers exactly this. With more time we head inland to Kumasi and the Ashanti region, where kente weaving and the royal history come alive.

In Accra we make time for Jamestown and its lighthouse, the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum, and Makola Market, and we leave an evening for the food, which is half the reason to come. Waakye for breakfast, grilled tilapia with banku, jollof rice fought over at every table. There is easily enough to fill a day or two in the city.

How we handle the ground for you

As a Kasoa-based team who run these trips every week, we take the whole ground operation off your plate. A driver-guide meets you in the Kotoka arrivals hall with a name board, loads the bags and drives you out in an air-conditioned car or minibus. From there the route, the timing and the site logistics are ours to manage.

Accra's roads move well on the main arteries and crawl in the rush-hour crush around Circle and Kaneshie, which is exactly the kind of local knowledge that saves you an hour a day. We know when to leave the city for Cape Coast to miss the worst of it. Our vehicles are kept up for the long coastal runs, and we set a realistic pace so the trip feels like a holiday, not a route march. Prefer to explore solo? We can arrange transfers only, and we will be candid about what doing it yourself on the tro-tros really involves.

Timing and what shapes the price

The dry season, about November to March, is the most comfortable for touring, though we run trips all year. If you are chasing quieter, greener weeks, the mid-year lull can suit you well.

December brings the Harmattan, the dry Saharan wind that hazes the light and cools the evenings a little; it is worth knowing about but rarely a reason to change plans.

We do not advertise fixed package prices, and there is a good reason for that: an honest figure depends on your specifics. Two people sharing a car is a different sum from a group of six; higher-standard hotels cost more than mid-range; a coast-only week is lighter than a loop up to the north. Fuel, park fees and the number of nights all move the total, and season plays in too. For the wider context of where money goes, see our cost breakdown. Send us your dates and group size and we will return a clear, itemised quote you can actually plan against.

Questions people ask

Is there a direct flight from Frankfurt to Accra?

Yes, Frankfurt has had nonstop service to Accra, with the flight running about six and a half hours. As schedules and airlines change from season to season, confirm the current direct service and timings when you book rather than relying on last year's timetable.

How do I book a Ghana tour from Frankfurt?

Send your dates and group size on WhatsApp or via our Plan my trip page. We reply with routing ideas and an itemised quote. Once confirmed, we arrange your airport pickup, vehicle, driver-guide and the full route.

What is included in a private tour?

Can I customise the itinerary?

Yes. We do not sell fixed shelf packages. Tell us how long you have, what matters most and your preferred pace, and we build around it, from a focused coastal week to a two-week loop through Kumasi and the north.

Is a deposit required?

A deposit usually confirms your dates and vehicles, with the balance settled closer to travel. We set out the exact terms in writing before you commit, and we never pressure anyone into a quick booking.

Is travelling in Ghana safe and reliable?

Ghana is among the most stable and welcoming countries in West Africa, and going with a local operator adds reassurance. Our team lives in Kasoa and runs these trips every week. Read our Ghana safety guide for a fuller, honest picture before you travel.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
