Ghana tours from Monrovia
Monrovia and Accra are a short flight apart and both run in English, so Ghana is one of the simplest trips you can make from Liberia. Here is how to plan it.
The short answer
- Monrovia to Accra is roughly one to two hours by air where a nonstop runs, or one-stop otherwise.
- Both countries operate in English, so there is no language barrier to work around.
- Ghana's tourism follows well-worn routes: coastal castles, rainforest, Ashanti crafts and beaches.
- The core loop covers Accra, Cape Coast and Elmina, Kakum and Kumasi.
- We are a Kasoa-based team and meet clients at Kotoka on arrival.
- Confirm current flights yourself, then send us dates and group size for a tailored quote.

From Monrovia to Accra
Ghana is close enough to Monrovia to treat as a neighbour. Flying time is short — roughly one to two hours where a nonstop is running, a little more if you connect one-stop through a regional hub. Bear in mind that Roberts International sits well outside Monrovia, so factor the road transfer to the airport into your day. Once you are airborne, Accra is barely any distance down the coast.
The trip is made easier by a shared language. Liberia and Ghana both operate in English, so you skip the reset that travellers face heading into Francophone countries. You land, you read the signs, you get moving. As a Kasoa-based team who arrange these regional trips every week, we take over the moment you clear Kotoka and handle the whole Ghana side for you.
What Ghana offers
After the effort of regional travel, Ghana's well-trodden routes feel like a relief. The Atlantic slave forts at Cape Coast and Elmina anchor most trips — preserved, sobering and best seen with a guide who can walk you through the history properly.
From the coast the country widens out. The Kakum canopy walk crosses the rainforest on rope bridges high above the floor; Kumasi is the Ashanti heartland, with kente weaving and the Manhyia Palace; and Accra brings food, markets and a lively night scene. A few beach days round it off nicely. Our reasons to visit Ghana page fills in the detail.
The food is part of the pull too. Waakye for breakfast, red-red with fried plantain, jollof you will happily argue about, and fresh tilapia with banku along the coast. In Accra we usually work in Jamestown, the old fishing quarter beneath the lighthouse, and Makola market, so you see the everyday city rather than only the headline sights.
Getting around once you land
Kotoka is central and quick to clear, so you are into Accra without much fuss. The roads linking the main sights are surfaced and the driving is manageable, though Accra traffic is genuinely heavy and every journey runs longer than the distance suggests. We plan for that honestly rather than promise times we cannot keep.

Most Monrovia visitors keep a private vehicle throughout, which is far simpler than assembling local transport in a country you are still learning. If you want the full picture before you fly, our guide to getting around Ghana lays it out plainly. The coastal road west to Cape Coast is the easiest driving you will do; the run north to Kumasi takes longer and rewards an early start.
How our private tours work
What we run for Monrovia travellers is almost always private. You get an air-conditioned car for a couple, or a minibus for a family or group, with a driver-guide who knows the roads, the sites and where to pull in for a decent lunch. There is no fixed coach clock, so the days move to suit you rather than the other way round.

A typical shape runs a few days on the coast and castles, Kakum in the middle, then up to Kumasi and back. If you would rather work from a plan, our 7-day Ghana itinerary is a template we can shorten or extend to your dates and interests.
Costs, visas and practical notes
We do not advertise one flat price, because the honest figure depends on your trip. The size of your group spreads the vehicle and guide across more people; season, hotel standard and how far north you travel all move the total, as does keeping the car private. Tell us what matters and we will quote it straight. Our cost breakdown shows what feeds into the number.
On entry, ECOWAS nationals generally have easier access, while others may need a visa or travel authorisation, and these rules change, so confirm the current requirement for your passport before you fly — our visa and ETA guide is a starting point, not the final word. A yellow fever certificate is normally required across the region. Ghana is stable and welcoming; our safety guide covers the sensible basics. Mobile money is used everywhere and cards work in the bigger hotels, but keep some cedis on hand for smaller places and change money at a bank or a proper bureau rather than on the street.
Plan your Ghana trip from Monrovia
The flight is short and you already speak the language, so the only real question is how to spend your days. That is where we come in — the driver, the hotels, the route — so your trip runs cleanly from the terminal to your return flight.
Book your flights first, then hand Ghana to us. We would be glad to plan it with you.
Questions people ask
How long is the flight from Monrovia to Accra?
It is roughly one to two hours where a nonstop is running, or longer if you connect one-stop through a regional hub. Remember that Roberts International sits well outside Monrovia, so allow time for the road transfer. Schedules and routes change, so confirm current flights before fixing your dates.
How do I book a tour with you?
Send your travel dates and group size, ideally on WhatsApp, and tell us what you want to see. We reply with a suggested route and an honest quote. Once you are happy, we confirm the details and set up your driver-guide and vehicle. Requesting a quote puts you under no obligation.
What is included in a private tour?
A private tour usually covers an air-conditioned vehicle, a driver-guide, fuel and the daily logistics of moving between sites. Hotels, entrance fees and meals can be included or left to you, as you prefer. We set out exactly what your quote covers before you commit, so there are no surprises later.
Can the trip be customised?
Yes. Almost everything we run for Monrovia visitors is private and built to order. Tell us your interests, your pace and how many days you have, and we shape the route around that rather than fitting you into a fixed coach schedule. You can add or drop sites freely.
Do I need a visa for Ghana?
It depends on your nationality. ECOWAS citizens generally enter more easily, while others may need a visa or travel authorisation. Rules change often, so always confirm the current requirement for your passport with an official source before travelling. Our visa guide is a useful starting point.
Is Ghana safe and reliable for visitors?
Ghana is one of the more settled and welcoming countries in West Africa, and English is spoken throughout, which makes travel simple for visitors from Liberia. We run these trips every week with our own drivers and vehicles. Take normal sensible precautions, and see our Ghana safety guide for more detail.
What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.
Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
