How our Ghana tours work
Booking a trip abroad with a company you have not met takes a leap of faith. Here is the whole process laid out plainly, so you know what happens at every stage.
The short answer
- It starts with a no-obligation enquiry — your dates, group size and what you want to see — and a draft itinerary comes back to you.
- Every tour is private and tailored; you are not slotted into a fixed group with strangers.
- A deposit secures the booking and reserves your vehicle, driver-guide and lodging, with the balance due closer to travel.
- We meet you at Kotoka Airport in Accra and your driver-guide stays with you for the whole trip.
- Days follow an early-ish start to beat heat and traffic, with the pace set to your energy, not a stopwatch.
- We are reachable throughout, so if a flight slips or plans shift, someone sorts it.

Step one: your enquiry and a draft plan
Everything starts with a message. You tell us when you want to come, how many are travelling and roughly what you are after — castles and history, food, nature, beach time, or a mix. You do not need a finished plan; a rough idea is plenty. As a Kasoa-based team who run these trips every week, we would rather shape it with you than hand you a rigid package.
From that, we put together a draft itinerary: a day-by-day route with suggested stops, drive times and lodging options at the standard you want. We are candid at this stage about what fits comfortably and what would leave you living in the vehicle. If you have never sketched a Ghana route before, our 7-day itinerary and the how-many-days guide give you a feel for the possibilities before you even write to us.
Step two: refining, quoting and confirming
You react, we adjust. This back-and-forth is where a trip actually gets good — swapping a night here, adding a market visit there, dialling the driving up or down. Once the shape is right, we give you a clear written quote.
We do not publish a blanket price because an honest one depends on your specifics: how many of you there are, how long you stay, the standard of hotel, how much ground you cover and the season. We explain what drives the figure so you can see exactly where your money goes. To confirm, a deposit secures your dates and lets us reserve the vehicle, driver-guide and rooms in your name; the balance falls due closer to travel. The terms are all in writing before anything is charged — no surprises, no pressure. If you want to sanity-check running costs generally, the trip cost breakdown is a useful reference.
Step three: arrival and your driver-guide
When you land at Kotoka International Airport in Accra, someone from our team is waiting past arrivals with your name on a board. No haggling with taxi touts at midnight, no working out a strange city on no sleep — you are met and driven straight to your hotel.

From that point your driver-guide is with you for the whole trip. This is the person who makes a private tour worth it: they know the roads, the timing of the tides at the coast, when Kakum is quietest, where to stop for good wafu or red-red, and how to read a situation you would not know to read. The vehicle is air-conditioned and yours alone — no shared minibus running to someone else's schedule, no waiting on strangers at every stop. If a day runs long or you want to linger somewhere, that is your call to make, not a fixed timetable's. Our guide to getting around Ghana explains why a driver-guide beats going it alone on these roads, and the airport pickup can be booked as a stand-alone airport car too.
Step four: the daily rhythm on tour
Ghana days work best with an early-ish start. We tend to move before the heat peaks and before Accra's traffic hardens, which means the big sights — the canopy walk, the castles, the markets — are calmer and cooler when you reach them. After that the pace is yours: some travellers want to pack every daylight hour, others want a long lunch and an afternoon by the sea.

Because the trip is private, nothing is on rails. Fancy an extra night in Cape Coast or skipping a stop to laze at Kokrobite? Tell your driver-guide and it happens. We build a little slack into most days precisely so that spontaneity is possible, and your driver-guide reads the day as it unfolds — shifting a visit earlier when rain is coming, or holding back when a market is at its liveliest. First-timers often worry about the small stuff — tipping, water, dressing right — and our first-timers guide and etiquette guide cover it so you feel at ease from day one.
Start planning your Ghana tour
That is the whole arc: enquire, refine, confirm with a deposit, get met at the airport, and travel with a driver-guide who has your back the whole way. The process is deliberately low-pressure — getting an itinerary and a quote costs you nothing and commits you to nothing.
The simplest way in is to message us on WhatsApp or the tours page with three things: your rough dates, how many are travelling, and what you most want to see. We will turn that into a real plan and a clear quote, usually within a day or so. If you are still deciding whether Ghana is right for you, why visit Ghana and Ghana for first-time visitors to Africa are honest places to start.
Questions people ask
How far in advance should I book?
A few weeks is comfortable for most trips, and it lets us reserve the vehicles and hotels you actually want. Peak periods around Christmas, Easter and December's festival season, and larger groups, benefit from more notice. That said, we can sometimes arrange a trip at shorter notice — ask and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
What is included in the price?
It depends on what we agree, but a typical quote covers your private air-conditioned vehicle, driver-guide, fuel and the agreed lodging, with site entry fees and meals either included or listed separately so you can see the split. We spell out inclusions and exclusions in writing so there is nothing to guess.
Can I really customise the itinerary?
Yes. Every tour is private and designed around you — we start from a draft and reshape it until it fits. You can change pace, swap stops, upgrade or simplify hotels, and adjust on the ground during the trip through your driver-guide. Nothing is locked to a fixed departure.
Do you take solo travellers and large groups?
Both. Solo travellers and couples usually go by car; families and larger groups by minibus. Group size is one of the biggest factors in the per-person cost, since the vehicle and guide are shared across everyone, so tell us your numbers for an accurate figure.
Is a deposit required, and is it safe?
A deposit confirms the booking and lets us reserve everything in your name, with the balance due nearer travel. We set out the amount and terms in writing before you pay, so you know exactly what you are agreeing to. Nothing is charged until you have approved the plan and the quote.
How do I reach you once I am in Ghana?
Your driver-guide is with you day to day, and our team stays reachable by phone and WhatsApp throughout your trip. If a flight slips, a plan changes or something unexpected comes up, there is a real person to sort it — that continuous support is a large part of why people book with an operator rather than winging it.
What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.
Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
