Why choose a private villa

A private villa hands you the entire property — no shared corridors, no queue for breakfast, no neighbours through the wall. For families travelling with children, or a group of friends who want to be together, that space is worth a great deal. Everyone gets a bedroom, there is room to spread out, and the pool and garden belong to your party alone.

Villas also give you a kitchen and living areas, so mealtimes and evenings feel like home rather than a hotel. You can cook when you fancy it, eat late, and let children nap without disturbing anyone. If you are weighing up the options, our comparison of the trade-offs between a private home and a hotel is a useful starting point.

Many guests who begin by browsing vacation rentals across Ghana end up choosing a villa precisely because of that combination of privacy and comfort. It is the difference between staying somewhere and living somewhere, even if only for a week.

Beachfront and city villas

Broadly, villas in Ghana fall into two groups. Beachfront villas sit along the coast — the Western Region around Busua and Axim, or the lagoon and ocean setting of Ada — where you wake to the sound of the sea and can walk straight onto the sand. These suit a proper coastal escape and pair well with our guide to Ghana's best beach resorts.

City villas sit in Accra's quieter residential neighbourhoods such as East Legon, Cantonments and Airport Residential. They put you close to restaurants, shops and the airport while keeping the privacy of a standalone home, which suits business visitors and families alike. If a hotel would suit you better for a city stay, our round-up of luxury hotels in Accra covers the top addresses.

What to expect inside

Most villas offer several en-suite bedrooms, an equipped kitchen, a lounge and dining area, air conditioning and reliable power — usually with a backup generator, which matters more than you might think. A private pool is common at the higher end, along with landscaped gardens and secure parking. Wi-Fi is standard, though speeds vary, so ask if you need to work.

Service is where villas really shine. Many come with a housekeeper, and you can often add a private chef who shops and cooks to your taste, plus a dedicated driver for the length of your stay. We can also arrange airport pickup and transfers so your whole group is met on arrival and driven straight to the door, luggage and all.

Who villas suit best

Villas make the most sense when there are enough of you to fill the space and share the cost. A family reunion, a group of friends on holiday, a destination wedding party, a milestone birthday or an anniversary all lend themselves to a whole-property booking. Divided between several couples or families, the nightly rate often compares well with booking multiple hotel rooms, and you gain far more space and freedom.

They also suit anyone hosting an event, since you have private grounds and catering can be brought in without a venue fee. If you are building a wider trip around your stay, our seven-day Ghana itinerary shows how to combine coast, culture and city, and a villa makes a comfortable base to return to each evening after a day out.

Celebrating something special? Weddings, reunions and big birthdays are our favourite bookings to arrange. Tell us the occasion and we will find the villa to match.

How to choose and book well

Location comes first: decide whether you want beach or city, then narrow by how close you need to be to the airport, restaurants or a particular event. Check the real bedroom count and whether beds are doubles or singles, confirm that air conditioning and a backup generator are in place, and ask exactly which staff and extras are included versus charged separately.

Always confirm the full price — cleaning, service, a refundable deposit and any event surcharge — in writing before you pay. Rates swing with the season, peaking around Christmas and Easter, so book early for those dates. Photos can flatter, and an honest appraisal matters. This is exactly where we help: we know these properties, visit many of them, and will tell you plainly whether one lives up to its listing.

Let us arrange your villa

Choosing a villa from a screen is hard, and a beautiful listing can hide a tired reality. We take that risk off your plate. Tell us your dates, group size, budget and must-haves, and we will present a shortlist we would happily book ourselves, with clear pricing and no hidden extras buried in the small print.

We can bundle in a chef, housekeeping, a car with driver and airport transfers so everything is handled before you land. Whether you want a beachfront hideaway or a city base close to the best areas to stay in Accra, we will match the property to your party and manage every detail.

Questions people ask

How many people can a villa sleep?

It depends on the property. Most villas have between two and six bedrooms, sleeping anywhere from four to a dozen or more guests. Tell us your group size and we will match you to a villa that fits comfortably.

Is there a minimum stay?

Many villas ask for at least two or three nights, and longer minimums often apply over Christmas, Easter and other peak periods. We will confirm the minimum for any property before you book.

Can we get a private chef and driver?

Yes, at most villas. A housekeeper is often included, and a private chef, dedicated driver and security can usually be added. We arrange these alongside the booking so it is all in place on arrival.

How much does a private villa cost?

Prices vary widely by size, location and season, so we do not quote a fixed figure. Beachfront and peak-season villas cost more. We will give you a clear, all-in price for any property before you commit.

Are villas safe and secure?

Reputable villas have gated compounds, secure parking and often on-site security. We only recommend properties we trust, and we can arrange a driver so you are not navigating unfamiliar roads at night.

Can you arrange airport pickup to the villa?

Yes. We will have you met at Kotoka and driven straight to the villa, so there is no fuss on arrival. Just share your flight details when you book.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
