Why Turkey is such great value

Turkey has become a firm favourite with Ghanaian travellers, and it is easy to see why. It straddles Europe and Asia, so one holiday delivers Byzantine and Ottoman splendour in Istanbul, the surreal fairy chimneys and hot-air balloons of Cappadocia, ancient ruins, and a Mediterranean coastline of turquoise bays. It is also known for strong value: your money stretches further on hotels, food and shopping than in much of Europe.

The welcome is warm, the cuisine is superb, and the bazaars are a shopper’s delight. Whether you want culture, beach, adventure or retail therapy, Turkey covers it — which is why it works so well as a package that ties the regions together. For traders and shoppers in particular, it has become a go-to destination, combining a genuine holiday with a chance to source goods.

The visa: what to prepare

Ghanaian passport holders normally need a visa for Turkey. Depending on your circumstances this may be handled through an electronic visa or through the embassy, and the rules, fees and processing times change from time to time — so confirm the current process on the official Turkish channel rather than relying on old advice.

You should generally expect to show a valid passport, photos to spec, proof of funds, confirmed flights and hotels, travel insurance and evidence of your ties to Ghana. A clean, consistent file matters.

Flights and transfers

Getting to Turkey from Accra is refreshingly straightforward. Istanbul is a major global hub, so you can often fly with a direct or single-stop routing, and the airline that serves it well makes onward connections within Turkey easy. We watch the fares and book at the point that gives you the best value, with baggage and timings that suit your plans.

Turkey is a big country, so internal flights between Istanbul, Cappadocia and the coast save precious holiday time, and we build those in alongside private airport transfers. No haggling with taxis after a long flight — just a driver waiting with your name. See how our flight booking service works and how we keep the transfer side sensible on price.

A classic Turkey itinerary

A well-balanced first trip runs about 7 to 10 days. Spend three or four nights in Istanbul for the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, a Bosphorus cruise and the Grand Bazaar. Fly to Cappadocia for two nights of cave hotels, underground cities and, if you dare, a sunrise balloon flight over the valleys.

From there, add a coastal finish — Antalya or the Aegean around Bodrum and Fethiye — for beaches, boat trips and ancient sites by the sea. Shorter breaks can focus on Istanbul alone, which easily fills four or five days, while longer holidays add Ephesus, Pamukkale’s white terraces or a gulet cruise.

Spring and autumn bring the mildest weather and thinner crowds; summer is hot and lively, especially on the coast. We tune the route and pace to your interests, whether that is history, relaxation or shopping. Families, couples and groups of friends each get a slightly different plan, and we build in enough breathing room that the trip never feels like a checklist.

The details we take care of

We make the whole trip easy. That means travel insurance that meets the requirements, guidance on money and cards, and advice on what to pack for city sightseeing and coastal heat alike. Our packing list and insurance guide help you prepare with confidence.

And we look after the Accra end too. A pre-booked airport pickup gets you to Kotoka calm and on time for check-in, so your holiday starts the moment you leave home rather than in a last-minute rush.

Is Turkey good value for Ghanaian travellers?

How long should a Turkey trip be?

When is the best time to visit Turkey?

How much does a Turkey holiday cost?

It varies with season, hotel class and how much internal travel you include, so we avoid quoting a misleading figure. Once we know your dates, group and preferences we give you a clear all-in price. Confirm the current total with us.

Can you arrange flights, hotels and tours together?

Yes. We book your flights from Accra, arrange your hotels and internal flights, handle private transfers and guided tours, and can pre-book your airport pickup at Kotoka, all as one seamless package.

Written by Abdul, founder of Ghana Travel & TourI started this agency in Kasoa Opeikuma, Central Region, in 2020. Our drivers meet flights at Kotoka, our homes are the ones we let in Kasoa, and the routes described here are the ones we run ourselves.

What I know about Ghanaian travel comes from doing it: filing passport and visa applications, booking flights and hotels, collecting people from arrivals at two in the morning, and driving the Accra, Tema, Cape Coast and Kumasi runs week after week. Where this guide describes how something works, it is because we have done it.

Rules, fees and timetables in Ghana change. I have deliberately not quoted figures that go stale — where a number matters I name the office to confirm it with. If you spot something out of date, tell me and we will fix it.
